Local Code of Corporate Governance
Corporate governance is the system by which a Council directs and controls it’s functions.
It has been recommended that all authorities draw up a Local Code of Corporate Governance and in accordance with this Castle Point Borough Council adopted this code in March 2006 to act as a framework within which it can achieve it’s aims and objectives.
Castle Point Borough Council is committed to effective and open leadership, which is key to effective corporate governance, and the code sets out the framework for applying and implementing the necessary arrangements. The Council embraces the three principles of good corporate governance (Openness & Inclusivity, Integrity and Accountability) for the delivery of services to the public and these are detailed within the code.
Since 2002 the Council has carried out self-assessments annually of compliance against the guidance provided by Cipfa/SOLACE within the 2001 publication ‘Corporate Governance in Local Government’. This code helps to formalise those arrangements and provide a mechanism by which those arrangements and the code can be continually reviewed and developed.
