About Us

Castle Point Borough Council covers the areas of Canvey Island, Benfleet, Thundersley and Hadleigh.

For information and facts about our borough you may find either or both of the following links useful. The first is to a document (Page 7 required) the council produces on a regular basis to state its present position and plans for future development. The second is to the appropriate section of the latest census (2001) produced by the Office of National Statistics. Both will give the reader a good appreciation of our makeup but if more specific information is required or much more accurate data please contact the council's Help Desk and they will direct you to the best information source.

A major turning point for Castle Point Borough Council was when it received its Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) result in 2004. After a period of sustained improvement - demonstrated through a range of external assessments, including a PDF Document progress assessment (213kb), a planning inspection and a peer review - Castle Point was re-inspected in 2007 and named a "Good" council in  PDF Document the report (160kb) .

Castle Point was also shown as the best performing council in Essex by Performance figures released in 2007.

The council has a number of priorities these include improving the environment and civic pride, regeneration of the local area and council homes, improving how the council operates and community safety.
