Asbestos

Questions

How can I dispose of asbestos e.g. garage roof?

Please note that asbestos should always be handled with caution and the following advice is given:-

  • If it's in good condition, the best option may be to leave it in place.
  • Surfaces may be sealed by painting with an oil-based paint or dilute (1:10) UPV glue.
  • Do not do anything that may break up the surface e.g. do not scrape or brush off lichen or moss.  Do not break up the panel.  Wet surfaces thoroughly and dismantle with care.

You can either take it yourself to a licensed site, by prior arrangement with the site operator at:-

Sites  Telephone
Aspect Contracts, Canvey 01268 681177
Onyx, Basildon 01268 523387
Ahern, Basildon 01268 533535

Or you can get a licensed waste contractor to collect it.  A list of these can be found in the Yellow Pages under asbestos.  Either way there will be a cost involved.
