By Signing up to the Make a Stand pledge, the Council is committed to make sure that Castle Point Council does the following by September 2020.

  • Make sure information about national and local domestic abuse support services are available on our website  at  www.castlepoint.gov.uk, so that they are easily accessible for our customers and local residents
  • Put an HR Policy in place to support members of staff who mat be experiencing domestic abuse
  • Appoint a Champion at Senior Level in the Council to support people experiencing domestic abuse and promote the campaign with our customers, Councillors, clients and staff.

Cllr Beverley Egan, ( Portfolio Holder for Housing)  said “ Domestic abuse is one of the biggest issues we face in society today and two women are killed every week in the UK by their partner or ex-partner.

A simple look at the shocking scale of domestic abuse, and that's just the abuse we know about, is enough to tell you that as a sector we collectively house and employ many thousands of people who experience domestic abuse.

We want to reach as many people as possible with Make a Stand and the success of the campaign will rely on us spreading the word and gaining real momentum.

To help us achieve this we launched  the Make a Stand  Pledge recently in the Council Reception to showcase the fact we have made the pledge and invited a host of Local Partners and Support Agencies to spread the word.

I would like to thank all our committed Partners in Castle Point for attending the launch and would like to thank the staff for their generosity in donating food and toiletries for one of our local Refuges.

We truly hope that we can help victims turn into Survivors.

All that remains for me to say is thank you for Making a Stand.

Cllr Nikki  Drogman said

“ I’m very pleased that Castle Point Borough Council are supporting the Make a Stand initiative, which makes a difference to victims of domestic abuse across the UK. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. We can offer support and put victims in touch with the fantastic support services available locally. When suffering from domestic abuse, this kind of support can make the difference between life and death. “
