Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards 2014 shortlist revealed

Rochford District Council and Castle Point Borough Council are celebrating the achievements of our local athletes and clubs by announcing the shortlisted nominations for the Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards 2014, sponsored by Pinnacle PSG.

With entries of such high-quality, the judges found the task of shortlisting nominees for each category extremely tough. The winners are set to be announced at a gala ceremony taking place at Runnymede Hall, in Thundersley, on November 6, 2014.

This year, the awards are proud to welcome gymnast Max Whitlock, who will be handing out the prizes to the winners at the ceremony. Max is a London 2012 Bronze medallist, and has achieved three Commonwealth Golds, a European Gold and a World Silver all in 2014.

Once again, BBC Essex sports presenter, Ben Fryer will be compering the event.

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community, Councillor Jo McPherson, said: “Within the nominees we have 14 different sports represented, which shows the wealth of talent we have locally. This year, nominees include World Champions, British Champions, Commonwealth Games athletes and European Champions, as well as those who have spent decades giving up their spare time to volunteer. We are proud to be hosting Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards 2014 in order to commend these sporting heroes for their achievements”.

Castle Point Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, Councillor Tom Skipp, said: “We are really pleased to be hosting this year’s Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards in Runnymede Hall in Benfleet. We are overwhelmed with the talent across both Borough’s and thrilled to recognize these achievements. The categories cover not just those achieving great personal sporting success but also team and club achievements as well as recognition for those who coach and inspire and who devote themselves to sport in their communities. This wonderful awards evening is a fabulous opportunity to celebrate all these great sports people and sports makers.’
