Show Domestic Abuse the Red Card

Police and Fire & Rescue officers from the area are to show their support for efforts to tackle domestic abuse by staging a charity football match at the Park Lane home of Canvey FC on Wednesday October 29th, kick off at 1pm.

The match will be contested for the ‘Silent Victim’ trophy an annual challenge staged by Castle Point and Rochford Domestic Abuse Panel, part of the Community Safety Partnership. This will be the seventh year of the fundraising match with the Fire & Rescue Service defending last year’s win against Essex Police players.

The Mayor of Castle Point, Councillor Jackie Govier will officially start the match at 1pm together with the Deputy Chairman of Rochford District Council Heather Glynn.

The Mayor of Castle Point, Councillor Jackie Govier said: “Too many victims of domestic abuse, whether physical or mental, suffer in silence.  We want to raise awareness of the help available to them, to have them understand that they are not alone.  That will be the real result of the day, irrespective of which team wins the match.”

All proceeds from the game will go to Basildon Women’s Aid. Spectators are welcome, with free entrance and refreshments provided.
