Coronavirus (Covid-19): Information for customers

Our centres have re-opened!

We are so pleased to have you all back and have been using our time whilst closed wisely to make sure we have followed all industry and Public Health England guidance to make the centres safe and ready for your return.

We will be opening our centres in phases to make sure we are compliant with all relevant guidance for both your and our staff’s safety. Our amazing Fitness Suites, Group Exercise Classes, Sports Hall activities and Swimming Pools are now open for customers. The Teaching Pool at both sites will be closed until further notice. The sauna & steam room, soft play areas also remain closed due to Government guidance.

All activities will need to be booked in advance preferably through the online booking system. For additional assistance please see our member and non-member booking guides.

Due to ever changing guidance, we have changed our requirements to advise all customers to wear face coverings in communal areas such as corridors, stairwells, reception and in changing room areas.

We must stress that customers do not have to wear a face covering when exercising in the Swimming Pool Hall, Fitness Suite, 3G Football Centre, Sports Hall or Exercise Studios. The same applies when customers are eating or drinking refreshments in our cafes but are advised to wear a face covering whilst travelling to these areas throughout the centre.

We are asking all customers to be aware and follow the changes we have made to keep everyone safe upon our return. We are asking you to:

  • Please be patient as everything will not be normal when you return and to please bear with us during our initial re-opening and transition period.
  • Keep a social distance from others not in your household of at least 2 metres where possible, if not possible make sure you keep a distance of at least 1 metre.
  • Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds.
  • If you cannot wash your hands please use the hand sanitising stations located throughout the centres.
  • Please make sure you come to the centre prepared. Please bring water and avoid using changing facilities as much as possible.
  • Wipe down all fitness and group exercise equipment you use, including benches and lockers in changing rooms, both before and after use with the cleaning equipment provided.
  • Use the online booking system to book classes and fitness suite timeslots where possible to keep distance from our staff at the reception desk and to avoid queueing when entering our leisure centres.
  • Make sure you do not congregate in groups within the centre.
  • Do not take ‘sweat’ towels into the studio or fitness suite, please use the disposable white roll as an alternative.

FAQ's

What if I can’t get booked into a class/gym visit?

We understand that at times that classes and the gym may get full, we will do our upmost to be able to offer an alternative whether this be an outdoor class, using an alternative site or a virtual class at home.  We do not expect to be running at maximum occupancies initially as we have over 700 hourly slots in the fitness suite at Waterside daily and over 400 at Runnymede.  We hope we can start to relax some health and safety measures over the coming weeks and months.  Your safety is paramount and we are following the Guidance from government and hope that numbers in the gym and classes sizes will soon increase.  All of our members will be given 7 days in advance to book – we just please ask you cancel if you can’t make it.

Will virtual classes continue?

Virtual classes will be reduced but we intend to still run at least 3 classes a week.  Our programme will be restarting on the 25th July and nothing beats the real thing!

Will membership prices decrease?

Membership prices will remain the same.

When will I next be charged?

We will take our next direct debit payment on the 1st of August. Any credit you are due will be credited automatically and taken off your first Direct Debit payment.

Can I still see my personal trainer?

You can still see your Personal Trainer and have a great session at Waterside or Runnymede.

Can I freeze my membership?

If it doesn’t feel like the right time for you then you can freeze your membership – please note that all memberships frozen must be requested before the 25th July to avoid a Direct Debit Payment.

Can I do pay as you go gym?

You can do Pay as you Go for non-members – you just need to click here to sign up.

What if I want to cancel?

You can email us in at leisure@castlepoint.gov.uk – we may contact you to find out why you are cancelling – we appreciate you taking the time to speak to us to help our service.

What are the 15 minute slots?

You can book your gym visit in 1 hour slots and up to 2 slots per day.  Each slot can be booked on the hour or each 15 minute segment after the hour.  Example – I could book my 1 hour slot for 1pm and leave at 2pm, I could book for 1:15pm and leave at 2:15pm or 1:30pm and leave at 2:30pm.

Can I still have a 1-2-1?

Yes you can still have a 1-2-1 but there may be a up to a three week wait for it with an instructor.  Due to the new rules and guidance everything must be booked and the fitness team will be ensuring that social distancing is being followed and the centre is clean.

Virtual 1-2-1/HALO?

We recommend anyone looking to start training with us to do a virtual 1-2-1 and follow the programmes available on HALO.  All you will need is SMART Phone – just download the HALO app and you will get access to over 20 different workouts.  All the exercises have a video to show you how to use each piece of equipment.  Instructors are on site to help as well.

Will the sauna and steam room be open?

The Government guidance does not allow us to open our sauna and steam room

I have aquatic membership – how will that affect me?

We will continue to freeze your membership until we are at a stage that we can open our swimming pools.

When will the online booking system be active so I can book?

The online booking system is not currently active. We will let all of our customers know as best we can when we make this active and you can start booking.

Most importantly, we hope all our friends, members & customers stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming you all again when we re-open!
