Canvey Skate Park Opening Jam

Canvey Island Skate Park Opening 04-06-2016Castle  Point Borough  Council  is pleased to announce that The Official opening by the Mayor of Castle Point Cllr Steven Cole  of  the Canvey Skate Park  at Waterside Farm Leisure Centre Somnes Avenue Canvey Island  will be taking place on Saturday 4 June from 11am to 4pm .

On the same day the new playground   at Waterside  Farm will be opened too.

The new skate park replaces a park, that was well loved by local users and those further afield, which has been the proving ground for a number of pro riders, who will continue to use the new park when practicing for their international events. Once opened the  Canvey Island Skate Park will become the largest free to use skate park in UK.

The Park has been  designed and built by Fearless Ramps (www.fearlessramps.com) for all levels of users from starter to pro-standard users.

It would not have been possible to complete this great facility without help with funding contributions from  Veolia North Thames Trust (£114k), Essex County Council (£50k from its £1million Youth Capital Fund) & Castle Point Borough Council (£36k)

We shall be putting on a fun-filled day to mark the opening that will include the following:

  • Official Opening and ribbon cutting at 11am by the  Mayor of Castle Point – Cllr Steven Cole

  • Demonstrations from professional skaters and riders

  • Workshops for local users by professional skaters and riders

  • Open sessions for all users

  • Competitions with prizes

  • Giveaways from local skate companies and sponsors

Cllr Ray Howard Castle Point’s representative on Veolia  North Thames Trust said ‘We are extremely grateful for the generous contribution made by the Veolia North Thames Trust toward the cost of replacing the new skate park. The community is very fortunate that Veolia North Thames Trust has been able  to support so many projects over many years."

Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: "The skate park was a really well-valued facility and I am delighted we have been able to provide funding to ensure it can reopen."

"This project is another excellent example of how Essex Youth Service supports communities and helps them provide youth activities that meet the needs of young people in their area."

Cllr Tom Skipp Castle Point Council  Cabinet Member  said "I welcome the opening of the new improved skate park . I hope beginners and experts alike will come along and enjoy this marvellous new facility."
