Essex Coast Recreational Disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy (RAMS) Draft Supplementary Planning Document Public Consultation

Essex Coast Recreational disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy (RAMS) Draft Supplementary Planning Document PUBLIC CONSULTATION

astle Point Borough Council in partnership with 11 Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) in Essex is publishing the Essex Coast Recreational disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy Draft Supplementary Planning Document (or Essex Coast Draft RAMS SPD) for consultation from 10th January – 5pm on 21st February 2020.

A large portion of the Essex coast is covered by international and European wildlife designations which seek to protect wildfowl and wading birds as well as their coastal habitats. Population growth in Essex from new housebuilding is likely to increase the number of visitors to these sensitive coastal areas for recreation, creating potential for impacts from increased recreational disturbance to the birds and their habitats unless adequately managed.

The Essex Coast RAMS SPD focuses on the mitigation that is necessary to protect the wildlife of the Essex coast from the increased visitor pressure associated with new residential development in-combination with other plans and projects, and how this mitigation will be funded. It accompanies the strategic approach to mitigation which is set out in the Essex Coast Recreational disturbance Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy. The Essex Coast RAMS SPD provides information on the types of development covered, details of what the applicant needs to do and the level of developer contributions being sought for strategic mitigation. The consultation is being hosted by Places Services at Essex County Council.
