Helping to stamp out Child Sexual Exploitation

Next Wednesday (March 18) is National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day and Castle Point Council is backing the national campaign to stamp out sexual abuse of children.

By encouraging everyone in the borough to think, spot and speak out against abuse we can foster a zero-tolerance attitude to adults developing inappropriate relationships with children or children developing inappropriate relationships with other children.

“Castle Point Council takes CSE very seriously and is undertaking a campaign to ensure that current good practice is embedded across the Council and in other areas of community life,” said Council Leader Colin Riley.

Awareness training is being targeted at people working in taxi companies, licensed premises, restaurants and fast food outlets.

A special handbook is being prepared for licence holders and taxi drivers highlighting the issues, and mandatory professional training on CSE is being introduced, free of charge, as a requirement to paid employment.

“This will help generate a real sense of achievement and extend the intelligence network in a way that will help safeguard and protect children and young people in our Borough,” added Cllr Riley.

On the day we will be tweeting our support and encouraging others to write a message on their hands and post it on Twitter using the hashtag #HelpingHands.
