All Castle Point households will be receiving a leaflet over the next few weeks reminding householders of what can be put in the pinks sacks for recycling.
Even though residents can recycle the large majority of their waste there are still some materials which unfortunately cannot be recycled. All items that cannot be recycled should be placed in the black refuse sacks for collection.
Placing materials that cannot be recycled in the pink recycling sacks can lead to the whole sack being rejected and not recycled or poorer quality recyclables and additional costs to the Council and to the Council tax payer.
In order to maximise recycling performance and maintain the high quality of the recyclables, pink recycling sacks which contain things that cannot be recycled are stickered with a note saying that the bag has not been collected because it contains contaminated material.
Householders are asked to remove sacks which are not collected from the roadside as the bags are their responsibility until collected and either remove the contaminated materials, re- bag and represent for collection in the next recycling collection or leave the bags for collection in next black sack collection the following week.
Councillor Ray Howard Cabinet Member for Waste said
‘Castle Point residents are excellent at recycling. We need residents to help keep contamination levels low and only recycle materials that can be accepted’
