On Wednesday, 20 May 2026, Councillor Kate Knott was inaugurated as the ‘First Citizen’ of the Borough and Mayor of Castle Point for the 2026–2027 municipal year. Kate will be supported throughout her term of office by her husband, the Consort, Councillor John Knott.

Councillor Knott serves as a ward member for Hadleigh, St James Ward.

The Mayor’s Chaplain is Reverend Mark Smeed of St James the Less Church, Hadleigh.

The Mayor will also be supported by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Michael Dearson, who represents Tarpots Ward.

In the event that the Mayor is unable to attend an engagement, the Deputy Mayor may attend on her behalf.
