Castle Point Plan Consultation
We’ve set out a bold, community-led strategy for sustainable growth across the Borough. The Castle Point Plan will set out where new development will be allocated, how much affordable housing will be built and more up to 2043.
Regeneration Priorities
Regeneration is needed to address important issues relating to the future wellbeing of the Borough. These issues include re-energising and expanding industrial and commercial areas to attract business investment and create more local jobs reducing the current high level of out-commuting; revitalising town centres to make them more attractive to existing residents to increase the proportion of resident spend currently being lost to other towns, and as business and housing locations; and improving the leisure and recreational opportunities on Canvey seafront.
Castle Point Regeneration Partnership, a network of individuals and organisations committed to the future prosperity of the Borough, is leading the regeneration process and is working to identify and develop projects which respond to the Borough's challenges and opportunities.
The Regeneration Framework identifies eight key priorities to bring about transformational change to Castle Point.
Key priorities:
Employment, Innovation and Economic Development
- Canvey Seafront - to attract commercial investment and enhance the seafront appearance/facilities, creating more jobs for local people and improving the leisure and recreational opportunities for local people and visitors.
- Northwick Road - Canvey - To attract investment into the area and create high quality jobs for local people.
- Charfleets Industrial Estate - Canvey - To improve access on to the estate and extend the estate.
- Manor Trading Estate, Benfleet - Redevelopment of the trading estate for residential purposes and the relocation of the existing uses to a new site in the north of the Borough.
Town Centres
- To remodel Canvey Town Centre and create a wider mix of uses including more local employment, improved retail offer and additional town centre housing.
- Hadleigh Town Centre - to create a wider mix of uses including more local employment, improved retail offer and additional town centre housing.
Education and Skills
- Two new secondary schools for Canvey - Castle View School and Cornelius Vermeyden
- Raising ambitions through improving skills
Environment
- Creating exceptional and accessible environmental habitats in West Canvey Marshes
Transport
- Transport Improvements including upgrading Sadlers Farm and extending Roscommon Way
