We know residents remain concerned about the condition of Canvey Lake and the impact on local wildlife.
As previously reported, water levels have fallen to a point where the floating aerator can no longer be used reliably. To help improve water circulation and oxygen levels, we have purchased an alternative aeration system. Our contractors are expecting the new system to be up and running by Friday.
We have also explored whether additional water could be added to the lake and asked Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) if they could assist.
In their response, they advised: "Unfortunately, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is not able to support the request to add water to the lake. Providing water to replenish lakes or other open water sources does not fall within the statutory responsibilities of the Fire and Rescue Service and is not an activity for which we should use operational fire and rescue resources."
While we recognise this may be disappointing for residents, we appreciate ECFRS taking the time to formally review our request and thank them for their response.
