Canvey Island Foreshore sees encouraging results following bathing water status
The first water quality sample at Canvey Island Foreshore, following its new designated bathing water status, has been published showing encouraging results.
In May this year, the Government confirmed that Canvey Island Foreshore had been officially added to England’s list of designated bathing waters, following a successful application submitted by Castle Point Borough Council. This means the water is now subject to regular monitoring by the Environment Agency throughout the bathing season.
The first sample, published on the Environment Agency’s bathing water profile, indicates good water quality, providing early reassurance for residents and visitors using the seafront.
Cllr Dave Blackwell, Leader of Castle Point Borough Council, said: “This is a fantastic start. Achieving bathing water status was a major step forward and something the Council and its partners had campaigned hard for. These early results show the benefits that come from continued investment, partnership working and a focus on improving our environment.”
Cllr Michael Fuller, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Regular water quality monitoring gives residents and visitors clear, reliable information so they can feel confident enjoying our coastline. It’s really encouraging to see such a strong first result.”
The Environment Agency will carry out regular sampling between May and September each year, with results published online and shared locally.
This early result marks a positive start for Canvey Island’s first season as a designated bathing water, supporting both public confidence and the Council’s wider commitment to a cleaner, greener Borough.
