Castle Point Borough Council is inviting residents to have their say as work begins on two new strategies that will help shape the future of sport, leisure and physical activity across the Borough.

Castle Point Borough Council is inviting residents to have their say as work begins on two new strategies that will help shape the future of sport, leisure and physical activity across the Borough.

The new Active Wellbeing Strategy will set out the role of the Council and its partners in supporting residents to become, and to stay, more active across Castle Point.

Alongside this, a new Leisure Investment Strategy will focus on Waterside Farm Leisure Centre and Runnymede Leisure Centres.  It will explore what investment may be needed to ensure these facilities continue to meet local needs and remain sustainable in the long term. The strategy will also consider how outdoor spaces could be improved to support people to be active closer to home.

At the same time, the Council is reviewing how its leisure service currently operates to ensure it aligns with the priorities identified through the new strategies.

The overall aim of this work is to help residents be more active, more often, and to support improved health and wellbeing across the community over the long term.

The Council has appointed The Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) to provide specialist advice on these key pieces of work.

Cllr Tom Gibson, Portfolio Holder for Special Projects & Assets  said: “Encouraging residents to be more active is a key priority for the Council, as we know the positive impact it has on both physical and mental wellbeing. These new strategies will help ensure we are providing the right facilities, services and opportunities for our communities. We want to hear directly from residents so we can shape plans that truly reflect local needs.”

Have your say by completing the survey by 5pm 19 June.
