Planning enforcement successes help protect Castle Point's communities and Green Belt

The latest successes demonstrate the important work being carried out by the Council's Planning Enforcement team to address unauthorised development and ensure that planning rules are consistently followed.

In Thundersley, the Council successfully secured the removal of an unauthorised dwelling in the Green Belt. Following an appeal, the Planning Inspector dismissed the appeal and upheld the Council's enforcement notice, confirming that the development was inappropriate and harmful to the openness of the Green Belt. The Council has now secured compliance with the notice and the dwelling has been removed.

In Hadleigh, enforcement action resulted in the removal of an unauthorised structure at a commercial premises. Officers pursued the case after determining that the development was harmful to the character and appearance of the street scene, helping to protect the quality of the local environment.

The Council has also successfully defended an enforcement notice in Benfleet relating to an outbuilding that had been erected and used as independent residential accommodation without planning permission. The Planning Inspector dismissed the appeal and upheld the enforcement notice, requiring the residential use to cease and the building to be removed. The decision reinforces planning policies designed to protect residential amenity and ensure suitable living conditions and parking provision.
