Recycling changes coming to Castle Point
Residents across Castle Point will soon see changes to their household recycling collections as Castle Point Borough Council introduces changes to meet the Government's Simpler Recycling requirements.
The changes will see paper and card collected separately from other recyclable materials through a new blue sack service. Pink recycling sacks will continue to be used for other recycling and will also begin accepting soft plastics and plastic film.
Separating paper and card from other recyclable materials helps improve the quality of recycling collected and allows more materials to be successfully processed and reused.
The new service will be introduced in two phases:
- from 2 October 2026 for households with Friday recycling collections
- from 2 November 2026 for households with recycling collections on Monday to Thursday
Residents will receive their new blue sacks free of charge up to one month before the changes take effect in their area. Information explaining how the new service works will be delivered alongside the sacks.
Under the changes:
- paper and card should be placed in blue recycling sacks
- pink sacks will continue to be used for recyclable materials other than paper and card
- soft plastics and plastic film can now be placed in pink recycling sacks
- glass collections will continue as normal in the green or yellow boxes
- collection frequencies will remain unchanged
Cllr Michael Fuller, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: "The Government's Simpler Recycling requirements require councils to make changes to the way household recycling is collected.
“Residents will receive a new blue sack for paper and card, while pink sacks will continue to be used for other recyclable materials. We will also now accept soft plastics and plastic film.
"We will be providing the new sacks free of charge and making sure residents receive information about the changes before they are introduced in their area.
"These changes are an important step in helping us do our bit for the environment, reduce waste and support a cleaner, more sustainable Borough for current and future generations.”
