Castle Point Borough Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Wates Property Services (WPS) as its new repairs and maintenance contractor following a competitive tender process. WPS will deliver day-to-day repairs and planned maintenance services for social housing from 1 April 2026 under a five year contract with an option to extend.

This appointment comes at a significant moment for the Council, coinciding with the launch of the largest capital investment plan ever approved to improve and modernise its Housing Service. WPS will play a key role in delivering this major programme, alongside providing a high quality, reliable repairs service and planned maintenance service.

The appointment follows a period of interim arrangements after the previous contractor ceased trading last year. Work is now underway with WPS to prepare for the start of the new contract.

WPS – the property services arm of Wates Group – is a large, nationally recognised contractor with the capacity to deliver a strong housing maintenance service while supporting the significant investment planned for improving homes across the Borough.

Cllr Dave Blackwell, Leader of Castle Point Borough Council said: “We’re pleased to confirm the appointment of WPS, bringing with them a wealth of sector leading experience. This contract provides long-term stability and ensures we have the right expertise in place as we deliver an ambitious programme of investment in our homes. We are committed to raising standards and ensuring every tenant feels safe, supported and well looked after.”

Cllr Rob Lillis, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Housing said: “We are delighted to appoint WPS as our new repairs and maintenance provider. WPS brings the experience and capacity needed to deliver day-to-day repairs effectively, while also supporting the largest investment programme we have ever undertaken to improve our homes. Castle Point tenants deserve safe, well maintained housing and this contract helps us deliver exactly that.”

James Gregg, Regional Managing Director at WPS said: “Our property‑services teams bring deep sector expertise, drawing on experience gained from supporting almost one in seven social homes across the country. They place resident wellbeing at the centre of everything we do, ensuring our responsive and planned maintenance services deliver consistency, quality and peace of mind. We’re looking forward to working with Castle Point to provide reliable, high‑standard services that help create safe, well‑maintained and thriving homes.”
