See our Christmas closure information for our opening times and more over the festive period.

The Council require access to your home to carry out the following:

  • Gas safety check
  • Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

We have a legal duty to carry out these checks regularly to keep you and your neighbours safe, secure, and protected.

Under the terms of your Tenancy Agreement with us, you must provide reasonable access for us to complete these important checks.

We will write to you before the next check is due to arrange a mutually convenient time for an appointment.

Can I refuse access for these safety checks?

Unsafe gas and electrical items can kill. These safety checks are a legal requirement and we must have access to your home in order to carry them out.

If access is refused, we may to take legal proceedings against you to forcefully gain entry to your home. This may include applying for a warrant or Possession Order from the County Court. These measures are a last resort following failure to get access to carry out these checks but may be necessary to ensure your continued safety.
