The Mayor’s Biography - Councillor Martin Tucker

Originally from London’s East-end, indeed my father was a councillor and the last Mayor of Poplar before the advent of The London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

I moved to Canvey Island in the seventies and married my wife Dawn in 1985, we have two sons and a daughter.

My secondary education was at Poplar Technical College.

I worked as an armature winder, trained apprentices in winding and electrical fitting.  I moved to sales working in London covering the building maintenance industry, and Sales and Marketing Manager in Alberta, Canada.   I managed branches of engineering companies as well.

I was one of the original members of the Canvey Island Independent Party and one of their original Councillors.  I have served for both North and East Wards, also Central Ward as a Town Councillor.  I was made the first Town Mayor of Canvey Island Town Council for the year 2016-2017.  At one time on Canvey Island, I was licensee of the 1066 and the Paddocks bars.

So, from being a young child visiting Canvey Island on day trips, I have become Mayor of Castle Point.  I am humbled that my colleagues think I am worthy of the honour of being The Mayor.  But, very proud of the achievement.
