Asbestos/Bonfire FAQ's

Questions

How can I dispose of asbestos e.g. garage roof?

Please note that asbestos should always be handled with caution and the following advice is given:-

  • If it's in good condition, the best option may be to leave it in place.
  • Surfaces may be sealed by painting with an oil-based paint or dilute (1:10) UPV glue.
  • Do not do anything that may break up the surface e.g. do not scrape or brush off lichen or moss. Do not break up the panel. Wet surfaces thoroughly and dismantle with care.

You can either take it yourself to a licensed site, by prior arrangement with the site operator at:-

Someone has lit a bonfire and the smoke is affecting me/my property. Can anything be done to stop this?

This may not be possible as it is not illegal for someone to have a bonfire and an Environmental Health Officer would have to determine if the smoke is causing a Statutory Nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
