His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
On behalf of the Borough of Castle Point Councillor Colin Riley, Mayor of Castle Point Borough Council, will today send a letter of deep and sincere condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and The Royal Family on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Friday 9th April 2021.
"May I record the gratitude of the Council and all the residents of Castle Point for the many years, a lifetime of service given by His Royal Highness to support Her Majesty the Queen, our Country, and the Commonwealth.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family at this difficult time.
Flowers & Other Tributes
We understand that many people would like to express their grief on the death of His Royal Highness. In order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions in place, and to prevent the spread of infection, we respectfully ask members of the public not to lay flowers or other memorial items such as candles, messages and mementoes, at any public spaces. Making a donation to one of His Royal Highness’ many patronages is a fitting way of paying tribute to his remarkable legacy. A list of His Royal Highness’ patronages, and how you can donate can be found on the Royal Website.
Books of Condolence
Ordinarily, Books of Condolence would now be open for members of the public to sign. However, due to coronavirus restrictions, the Mayor is asking local residents who wish to express their sympathies to please sign the national e-books of condolence Royal Website.
Council Services
The council will be following the national guidelines during this period of mourning. All public services and any services involved in the response to COVID-19 will continue as usual throughout the mourning period and residents will be able to access information and services online as necessary.
The flag will be flown at half-mast during the period of national mourning as the councillors and staff of Castle Point Borough Council at the Civic Offices in Benfleet pay their respects to His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
A national one minute silence will take place at 15.00 on the day of the funeral.
