If you’re struggling to pay your rent, act as early as possible before the debt builds up. We want to make managing your rent as straightforward as possible. Our goal is to give you clear information about your rent account and offer the support you need to feel confident in your tenancy.
We’re here to help, and together we can look at options to manage any arrears. If we don’t hear from you or an agreement isn’t made, we’ll need to take steps to recover the unpaid rent. This may include contacting you by phone or letter, or visiting your home to talk things through.
We can also arrange a homeless prevention interview, where we’ll explain what could happen if rent isn’t paid and discuss the housing options and support available to you.
- Contact the Rents Team straight away to explain your situation on 01268 882481
- Check whether you may be entitled to Housing Benefit/Universal Credit
- The Rents Team can advise you on:
o Benefits you may be eligible for
o Refer you to specialist support, such as Peabody or the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) - You can contact the CAB directly, but it’s important to keep the Rents Team informed about any advice or support you receive.
