Freedom of Information (FOI)

Castle Point Borough Council has in the past fully embraced previous legislation such as the Data Protection and Access to Information Acts that allow for access to details of our work.

The Council has always strived to work in an open and interactive way with our citizens and is happy to embrace the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act. There are some exemptions which are laid down in the Act but, as a general rule, we will provide information wherever possible.

The Act came into effect on 1 January 2005 and states -

'Any person making a request [in writing] for information to a public authority is entitled:

 (a) to be informed in writing by the public authority whether it holds information of the description specified in the request, and

(b) if that is the case, to have that information communicated to him.'

Requests must be dealt with within 20 working days.

Please check the Council's Publication Scheme and our Guidance on Freedom of Information Requests as these provide details about the information we publish, how to obtain it and where to find it on the website (where applicable).
