2025 Remembrance and Armistice Day events

Remembrance Day, Sunday 9 November 2025

South Benfleet      

Cabinet Members, Councillor Rob Lillis and Councillor Russ Savage along with Chief Executive, Angela Hutchings and Director, Ian Butt, will be attending the service at St. Mary’s Parish Church.  Arrival by 9.45am, the service will start at 10am.  The Deputy Leader, Councillor Warren Gibson will join the outside service of remembrance at the war memorial, which will start at approximately 10.55am and will include the two minutes silence at 11.00am. After which there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths.

 

Canvey Island       

The Mayor, Councillor Barry Campagna along with the Leader of the Council, Councillor Dave Blackwell and Cabinet Members Councillor Michael Fuller and Barry Palmer, will be attending the Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at the Paddocks Community Centre, Canvey Island, conducted by Revd. Marion Walford, including observance of the two minutes silence.  The service will be held outside in the grounds of the Paddocks and will commence at 10.40 am, gather from 10.20 am.  Please dress appropriately for the weather.  Please also be advised there is no reserved seating, except for dignitaries.  After the service there will be the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial.  The Procession will then Parade down to the Royal British Legion, Denham Road, Canvey Island SS8 9HB. 

 

Hadleigh     

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kate Knott, and Director, Matt Harwood-White will be attending the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance in St. James’ The Less Parish Church conducted by Reverend Mark Smeed. Arrival from 10.30am for the service at 10.50am and two minutes silence at 11.00am will be observed.  The service will end 11.45am approximately, please then make your way to the War Memorial (walking on the footpath) for a short service and laying of wreaths at 12 noon.

 

Thundersley

Past Mayor, Councillor Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert along with Assistant Director, Janette Parker-East, will be attending St Peter's Church, Thundersley, please arrive by 10.40am for 10.50am start. Two minutes silence will be observed at 11.00 am.  There will be an opportunity to lay wreaths during the service. 

 

Armistice Day – Tuesday, 11th November

The Salvation Army Temple

The Mayor will be attending the service at the Salvation Army Temple, which will be held on the forecourt of The Salvation Army Hall, London Road, Hadleigh.  Arrival from 10.30am for 10.45am start. The service will be led by Salvation Army Corps Leader, Major Mark Cozens, along with Revd. Mark Smeed, and will include a hymn, prayers, last post and reveille and the two minutes silence.  Tea and coffee will be served in the foyer of the hall afterwards.

 

Thundersley Village

The Deputy Mayor will attend the service in Thundersley Village. Revd Marcus Giddy will lead a short act of remembrance at the War Memorial. Please gather by 10.40am for 10.50am start.  Two minutes silence will be observed at 11am and there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths.
