Castle Point Borough Council urges residents to take part in South Essex Transport Consultation

Castle Point Borough Council is encouraging residents to respond to Essex County Council’s public consultation on the South Essex Implementation Plan, which sets out proposals for future transport investment across the region.

This is a vital opportunity for our community to help shape how transport infrastructure evolves in South Essex including improvements that directly affect Castle Point.

Cllr Tim Copsey, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning said: “Castle Point Borough Council responded to Essex County Council’s (ECC) consultation last year on the overarching transport strategy and we’re really pleased that ECC listened. We submitted detailed representations that align with the ambitions of the Castle Point Plan and reflect the significant effort the Council made in gathering robust evidence to support our case. Many of the priorities we raised - such as improved accessibility to Canvey, better public transport, safer walking and cycling routes and enhanced road safety are now reflected in the South Essex Implementation Plan.”

“While the Council has yet to make a formal response, it is really important that residents respond to this consultation and make their voices heard.”

Key proposals for Castle Point include:

  • South Essex Bus Metro
  • A129 bus corridor – Hadleigh to Rayleigh
  • Dial-a-ride Canvey
  • A127/A130 Fairglen - interchange improvements
  • A127 Strategic package
  • Thames Coastal Protection
  • Castle Point walking and cycling improvements
  • A13 Sustainable corridor
  • Canvey access improvement
  • Canvey surface water flooding
  • Canvey town centre
  • A13 improvements

Castle Point Borough Council will be considering its formal response to the consultation at its Cabinet meeting on 16 September when a paper will be presented analysing the Implementation Plan and its implications for Castle Point.

Residents can review the proposals and submit your feedback by 24 September on the Essex County Council website.
