Changes to Waste and Recycling Service

CPBC logo

At the September Cabinet meeting, officers presented a report outlining the future provision of the Borough’s Waste and Recycling Service. Members approved the report, which included recommendations to introduce a new separate collection service for paper and card using disposable sacks. This change will be implemented in autumn 2026 and will ensure that the Borough complies with the new Simpler Recycling reforms. Residents will receive new disposable sacks alongside the existing pink sacks.

Additional service enhancements include the rollout of a comprehensive suite of recycling services at communal properties during 2026 and the appointment of Education and Engagement Officers. These officers will work closely with the community to promote better recycling practices and reduce waste, supporting the transition to a circular economy - an approach that keeps materials in use for as long as possible by reusing, repairing, and recycling them, rather than sending them for incineration.

In light of cost considerations, evolving Government policy and future Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), the Borough will not be progressing with the introduction of wheelie bins in the near future.
