Have your say on application for bathing water status for Canvey seafront

Castle Point Borough Council is inviting residents to take part in a public consultation regarding its application for official bathing water status on Canvey seafront. The proposed area stretches from the Canvey Island Town Council sea pool through to and including Thorney Bay.
If the application is successful, it will mean that the Environment Agency will monitor water quality on Canvey Island between 15 May and 30 September each year. This includes identifying pollution sources, recommending improvements and classifying the water annually as excellent, good, sufficient or poor. The Council will also be responsible for displaying signage during the bathing season to inform the public about water quality, pollution incidents and if there are any potential risks.
Councillor Michael Fuller, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “We’re consulting residents on our application for bathing water status for Canvey seafront. It’s a space our community values and this status, if granted, will help ensure it remains safe, clean and protected for everyone who enjoys it.
"Regular monitoring and public information will enable residents and visitors to make informed choices and we’re committed to working with the Environment Agency to uphold the highest standards. I encourage everyone to take part in the consultation and share their views.”
The consultation is open from 19 August to 30 September and can be filled in on our website.
Hard copies of the consultation will be available from the Council offices on Kiln Road.
