New £1.5m Pavilion officially opens its doors at Thorney Bay

A modern pavilion has officially opened at Canvey Island’s Thorney Bay seafront, boasting a welcoming, dog-friendly café run by Street & Co Coffee Shop and modern public toilets for residents and visitors.

The Mayor of Castle Point, Cllr Barry Campagna, cut the ribbon to symbolise the start of an exciting new chapter for Canvey Island, delivering a short speech on what the café means to the community.

Also in attendance were Mayoress Mrs Deborah Campagna, Leader of the Council Cllr Dave Blackwell, Cllr Barry Palmer, and members of staff from the Council and contractor Ingleton Wood.

The stunning £1.5 million pavilion stands as a symbol of renewal, ambition, and community spirit. It’s part of a major investment aimed at revitalising Canvey Seafront, improving public amenities, and supporting local businesses.

New café operator Street & Co Coffee Shop brings a wealth of experience in delivering successful cafes and coffee shops in and around Essex and Kent, with owner Charlene having served at some of the country’s most iconic events, including the King’s Coronation at Windsor Castle, Battersea Fireworks and New Year’s Eve on the Embankment in London.

The company also plans to bring the community together with weekly themed street food evenings, engaging event nights, and a warm, dog-friendly atmosphere. It will be a place where people can relax, meet new friends, and even work comfortably with their laptops. Street & Co is already interviewing staff for the café, creating new job opportunities for local people on Canvey and helping to boost the local economy.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Dave Blackwell said:

“I’m very pleased that the new Pavilion has opened. I think it’s a great thing for Canvey and I’m confident this new café will be popular with dog walkers and visitors to Thorney Bay in general, especially as this will be one of the first dog-friendly cafes on Canvey.

“I think this pavilion will greatly enhance our efforts to regenerate Canvey seafront and I wish them all the best.”
