During the Past Mayor, Cllr Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert's term of office as Mayor of Castle Point, she was delighted to work with the Chief Executive & Officers on setting up a Youth Council for Castle Point. The aim was to set up a Youth Council for Young People aged 11-18 who live or go to school in Castle Point and it provides them with a platform to have a say on how where they live is run.

The Youth Council will meet to discuss issues that affect, or are important to, the young people in Castle Point.  A number of Youth Council meetings have been held with a large number of Young people and they have designed a new youth council logo that will be used in the future to promote the youth council and they have agreed their own constitution and have agreed and elected 6 committee positions which are: Youth Mayor, Deputy Youth Mayor, Treasurer, Secretary, Projects Officers and Media Officer.

An election was held in the atrium on 15th May (set up like a proper polling station with ballot boxes and privacy screen) where all the young people voted for those who had put themselves forward to stand for election to these positions. Last night, those elected to the positions were presented badges and the New Youth Mayor presented with their Chain of Office by Barry & Lynsey.
