Chalara Fraxinea - Castle Point Borough Council is following advice given by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Forestry Commission.
The disease, which effects all varieties of ash including ornamental trees causes the trees crown to die back and is usually fatal to effected trees although some mature trees may be immune
On 9th November 2012, DEFRA issued a written statement on the disease that can be found by following the link https://www.gov.uk/government/news/written-parliamentary-statement-ash-tree-dieback
If you think you have identified a diseased tree, more information on how to make a report can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/tree-pests-and-diseases
If you think you have identified the disease in a tree on Castle Point Borough Council land you can report the trees location to rlynch@castlepoint.gov.uk
Trees situated in the highway verge are the responsibility of Essex County Council Highways and reports should be sent to h&tlocalism&customersouth@essex.gov.uk
