Credit Check Information

Before starting your application please read the information below

Before applying you will need to have your bank details and property reference number to hand.  Your property reference number can be easily found on the Valuation Office website and is held in the column titled 'Local Authority Reference' once you have entered your details.

Please do not ring the Council for this information unless you are having problems accessing the Valuation Office website

In line with Central Government guidance, Councils will be required to undertake pre-payment checks before we can release payment of any grant to a customer who is not a Direct Debit payer.  This is to protect from any fraudulent applications for public money.  These checks will enable the Council to be reassured that:

  • The person who is applying is entitled to the payment; and
  • That the payment details being provided belong to the person entitled to the payment and is registered to the relevant address

With a view to releasing payments to residents as quickly as possible, Castle Point Borough Council are working in conjunction with a third party provider to automate the validation checks required by Central Government.  As part of the application process you will be asked to consent to an ID check through TransUnion Credit Bureau.  These checks will not affect your credit rating, nor will they give the Council access to any of your financial information, this information is used purely to verify that you are registered at the property address and that you are the named party on the bank account supplied for payment.

Please note you will not be able to complete your application without consenting to this process.
