Raising the flag on Commonwealth Day

Castle Point is one of hundreds of Councils across the UK celebrating Commonwealth Day.

At 10am on Monday 9 March the Mayor, Councillors, invited guests from the Commonwealth and members of the public will gather in the atrium of the civic offices in Kiln Road, Thundersley for the occasion.

A message from Her Majesty The Queen will be read by Cllr Jackie Govier Mayor of Castle Point. The Commonwealth Affirmation will be read out by a member of the Zimbabwean community who resides in South East Essex. Other members of the Zimbabwean community will be present and representatives from other commonwealth countries will also be attending the event at the Council Offices in Benfleet. Following the Flag raising the Mayor will be hosting a small reception for invited guests and Councillors.

Kindly note that the Commonwealth Flag will be Flying outside the Council Offices from 07.00hrs on Monday 9th March until 07.00hrs on Tuesday 10th March 2014 at the behest of Her Majesty the Queen to celebrate Commonwealth Day.
