Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP)

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) provide financial support to help with rent or housing costs.

You can apply for a DHP if you currently get either;

• Housing Benefit
• the housing element of Universal Credit 

A DHP can help people with a range of housing costs, including;

• rent shortfalls - the difference between your rent liability and your income, including any benefits
• rent deposits
• rent in advance 
• removal costs

If you need to provide documents after your application has been submitted you can attach them using our online evidence upload form

The online form is a combined DHP and Exceptional Hardship Payment form, but we will only assess you for the help that you need based on your circumstances.
