The Essential Living fund is part of a £6.2m blanket of support for Essex residents hit by the pandemic, announced by Essex County Council last month. Other support is being distributed as follows:

  • Free school meals vouchers for all eligible children through the Christmas and half-term school holidays will be distributed to parents via schools and colleges. More information is being sent to schools and colleges this week. They will contact parents of eligible children.
  • Food banks and food projects can apply for up to £2,500 from the Christmas Support Fund administered by Essex Association of Local Councils. The closing date is 16 December.
  • Essex County Councillors will be able to nominate local food initiatives helping residents in their division. Organisations interested in being nominated should contact their local councillor.
  • Christmas hampers containing food, vouchers and a gift will be given to nearly 1,000 care leavers

Additional funding is being distributed to existing services and organisations that provide support such as debt and housing advice, mental health support or help with substance issues.
