Silver Award renewed for commitment to the Armed Forces

Castle Point Borough Council’s continued support for the Armed Forces community has been celebrated with the renewal of its Silver Award.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award is received by those employers who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and lived up to its values by demonstrating a commitment to the armed forces; to those serving, to veterans and to their families.

The award, which is given by the Ministry of Defence, was originally bestowed to Castle Point in 2014 and was last renewed in 2017.

Cllr Steven Cole, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces is long-standing so I am very pleased our efforts to revalidate our Silver Award have been successful.

In our signing of the Armed Forces Covenant we acknowledged the support, fairness and respect all those who are part of the Armed Forces community need in the workplace. Through our staff policies and our actions, I am proud we live up to this commitment.

The Council is working closely with the Armed Forces community and businesses in the Borough to maximise the full value of the skills they have to offer.

The award will be displayed in the Atrium at the Council Offices near to the memorial plaque for the fallen as a visible acknowledgement of its commitment and thanks to the Armed Forces.
