Community Infrastructure Levy

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a locally set charge on new development that was introduced in Castle Point on 1 May 2023.

It is a charge based on the size and type of development. If a development is liable to pay CIL, the payment is mandatory to pay and non-negotiable.

The funds raised through the levy will be used to help fund improvement to infrastructure in Castle Point.

The Charging Schedule sets out the types of developments liable for CIL, and the amount that will be charged per square metre of additional development.

The Instalments Policy sets out when CIL payments need to be made.

Developer contributions specific to a development proposals may still be sought in addition to CIL. To find out more see Developer Contributions Guidance
