The Council recognises that residents care deeply about the condition of the Lake and that concerns have been raised, including about water quality, wildlife and the impact of the recent warmer weather. This page will be kept up to date with the newest updates for Canvey Lake as statements are released and progress is made.

11 June - Water Quality Monitoring and Improvement Plan
We are carrying out a programme of work at Canvey Lake to understand and improve water quality. This includes regular testing and practical steps to make the Lake cleaner, healthier and better for wildlife.
We will carry out regular water checks to build a clear picture of what is affecting the Lake. At the same time, we will use natural treatments to reduce pollution and control algae.
We’ll also improve habitats by planting along the banks and adding floating eco-islands to support wildlife.
Surveys will help us understand how much silt has built up and planned de-silting work will remove this to improve water conditions.
Together, these actions will help create a healthier environment for both wildlife and the community. Read the full plan here.
